The Federal Government is to continue to improve water Governance in line with modern best practices.<\/p>\n
The Acting Executive Director, Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Mrs. Sakinatu Suleiman Abbo Jimeta made this known while delivering her welcome address at the workshop on \u2018Preparation of Water Related Guidelines for the Smooth Operation of the Commission\u2019s Activities\u2019 in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Jimeta said water is a vital resource that supports socio-economic development, environmental sustainability and public health.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we continue to improve water governance in alignment with modern best practice, it becomes imperative to establish clear and comprehensive guidelines that will guide the smooth operation of the Commission\u2019s activities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the workshop, Mrs Jimeta said the Federal Government is to engage in meaningful dialogue, share insight and develop robust regulatory instruments to address key challenges in water resources management.<\/p>\n
The Acting Executive Director noted that the regulations must reflect national realities with wide solutions to improve water conservation, promote efficient water use and mitigate the impact of climate change on the water system.<\/p>\n
In her words \u201cthis workshop provides us with the valuable platform to deliberate on the preparation of such regulations which will ensure equitable access, sustainable utilization and proper management of our nation\u2019s water resources and to develop a legal framework that will enhance the Commission\u2019s capacity to fulfil its mandate\u201d.<\/p>\n
Barrister Winifred A. Agogo made a presentation on \u2018Water Use Licence Terms and Condition in line with Section 18 of the Water Resources Act (WRA) Pre-trial and Prosecutorial Guidelines\u2019 and Barrister Bright Okpabi presented on \u2018Water Use Licence Terms and Conditions in line with Section 18 of the Water Resources Act (WRA) Guidelines on Post-judicial Enforcement\u2019.<\/p>\n
