The Executive Director, Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Dr. Abdulmumin Aminu Zaria has said that the Marketplace project of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) is an energy hub of development that can transform lives of Nigerians.<\/p>\n
He made this statement while presenting his goodwill message at the occasion of the ACReSAL Marketplace project in Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to Dr. Aminu-Zaria, \u201cthe Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission has had the distinct privilege of receiving invaluable support from the ACReSal project, which has made a profound impact in two key areas of our operations. First, through the development of 20 Strategic Catchment Management Plans (CMPs) for the five Northern Hydrological Areas of Nigeria. These CMPs serve as essential frameworks for the sustainable management of our water resources, allowing us to address local needs and environmental challenges effectively.<\/p>\n
Second, the establishment of a dedicated Hydrological Modelling Centre has greatly enhanced our analytical capabilities. This centre allows us to simulate various hydrological scenarios, which is crucial for informed decision-making in resource allocation, flood management and drought mitigation strategies. Together, these initiatives have significantly bolstered our institutional capacity to implement Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) practices.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further stated that the partnership between NIWRMC and ACReSAL has also \u201cimproved water governance across the region, fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting sustainable development within our catchment areas. Through these efforts, we are paving the way for a more resilient water management system that ensures equitable access to water resources while preserving the environment for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that \u201cthe Commission deeply values this partnership with ACReSAL and recognizes the project\u2019s critical role in advancing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), climate adaptation and livelihood improvement. As we continue to collaborate, we remain committed to ensuring that these interventions translate into sustainable benefits for the environment and the people of Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ACReSAL Market Place Project with the theme \u2018greening the environment, saving lives\u2019 is a stakeholders engagement programme that brought together World Bank, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Federal Ministry of Environment and other relevant participants.<\/p>\n
