Dr. Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria has presented his milestone achievements of the first 100 days in office as the Executive Director of the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC) in Abuja.
\nWhile presenting his speech, the Executive Director said “today is not just a moment of reflection, but a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to safeguarding Nigeria\u2019s water resources, strengthening national water security, and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.
\nHe said “the Commission sits at the heart of Nigeria\u2019s water governance framework. Its work is critical to national development, environmental sustainability, food security, industrial growth, and climate resilience”.
\nDr. Aminu-Zaria noted that “when I assumed the position of Executive Director 100 days ago, I came in with a clear vision:
\nTo build a disciplined, transparent, data-driven, and technologically enabled regulatory institution that is responsive to the needs of citizens, industries, and the environment”.
\nSpeaking during the occasion, the Executive Director said in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda and with the support of the Honourable Minister and Management of the Commission, he immediately initiated key reforms with focus on restoring order, strengthening systems, improving efficiency, empowering staff, rebuilding the foundation of the commission and restoring public confidence where he highlighted some of his achievements:
\n“Enhanced staff morale through engagement at the management and staff town hall meetings to identify and address concerns of the staff;
\nInaugurated the think tank team to drive the goals of the administration;
\nStrengthened partnerships with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), Global water Partnership Organization (GWPO), National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF), Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) for institutional collaboration, capacity building and data sharing;
\nRevived field and catchment offices for catchment operations across the Hydrological areas;
\nIntroduced and unveiled the PACE (Professionalism, Adeptness, Consistency, and Excellence) Agenda which embodies my utmost commitment to propel NIWRMC to unprecedented heights, ensuring effective service delivery within the water sector as a national regulator;
\nUpward review of the Security and Janitorial personnel salaries;
\nSigned a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kano State Water Board to strengthen Nigeria\u2019s water Governance drive”.
\n“Our internal systems are stronger; our staff are motivated; our partners are more engaged; and our commitment to water governance reform is unwavering and I am glad to say we have laid the groundwork for a modern, digital, transparent, and future-ready regulatory body, better aligned with national priorities and our goal is to secure Nigeria\u2019s water future and ensure that every drop is sustainably managed for generations to come”, he added.
